What is Aquaponics & How Does it Work ? G'Day Folks. Aquaponics is a fantastic way to combine aquaculture with hydroponic veggie production in your own backyard, basement or balcony. Aquaponics Design | Backyard System for Pat G'Day Folks. In this clip I run through a basic Backyard Aquaponic system that includes a solids filter, biofilter with both a media & a deep water culture (DWC) hydroponic grow bed. It also includes information on stocking rates, feeding rates, how solids & biofilters work. Some of these subjects I've covered in earlier clips (links below) & others will be covered in greater depth in upcoming clips as I get time to produce them.  

I really like the idea of aerating the fish tank by venturi to save some coin & help make the system quieter.. A mate shared an idea with me for a unit he had been working on & was happy with.. I decided to have a crack at his idea along with a few others to see which I thought would work the best for our set up.. I was most pleased with the results & ended up going with the "Bear Unit".. I have had one in the aquaponic fish tank for over 2 weeks now with no issues & have plans to add another to a moving bed bio filter that will be added to the system soon.. Was also very pleased with the off the shelf unit. That one will be going into the moving bed bio filter in the recirculating aquaculture system & is also being used in the fish tanks on the new aquaponics system. #Aquaponics #AquaponicSystem #AquaponicGrowing

Urban Farm Front Yard Wicking Garden Update - Squash, Bananas + More Hi folks. Took the camera for a spin around the front yard wicking veggie patch to give you a bit of a look at how it's going. Also checked in on the banana clump & some new additions for the patch. Will be sorting out the bathtub bed and planting out the new starts as soon as things cool down a bit here.  

Hi Folks. Have been asked MANY times over the past few years if I could post a clip on building a basic aquaponic system & have finally found the time to knock one together. This is a basic aquaponic system made from a recycled IBC tank that would take the average handyman a day to build & set up. The beauty of this Chop & Flip system is that it can be added to over time, after you've gotten the bug & want to grow more tasty fish & veggies in your own backyard. The cost for this build was just under AUD $240 for the tank, pump & all the required plumbing which was bought from retail stores. It would work out a fair bit cheaper if bought from wholesalers & online stores. The clay cost an extra AUD $150 but rock & other media would be a lot cheaper.
