All about Air Canada Policy for Cancellation, Flight Changes, Baggage, Standby, or More

Air Canada has pretty friendly flight changes or cancellation policies. But if you don’t know, changing or canceling a flight can be complicated, expensive, and time-consuming. If you’ve booked a flight with Air Canada and want to change or cancel, this guide gives you all the information you need to navigate through Air Canada Policies and which policies apply to your current situation.

Air Canada Cancellation Policy

As per Air Canada Cancellation Policy You may cancel your purchase of tickets up to 24 hours after purchase and Air Canada will provide you with a full refund without penalty. This policy applies to refundable as well as non-refundable fares.

Basic economy ticket: Air Canada will not allow you to cancel a basic economy ticket unless it is canceled within 24 hours from the time it was purchased. However, there are some circumstances in which you can cancel and request a refund if Air Canada changes your flight schedule by 2 hours or more, if you have military orders, or if you or your travel companion dies.

Non-refundable tickets: Standard, Flex, Comfort, and non-flexible business or premium economy fares are classified as non-refundable.

This means that you will be charged a $200 fee to cancel your ticket. After paying the fare, you can apply the unused value of your ticket to future travel, provided your new travel begins no later than 1 year after the original ticket issue date and you have canceled the original ticket prior to departure of the first flight.

Refundable ticket: Latitude and Premium Economy or Business flexible fares are classified as fully refundable. If you purchased one of these tickets, cancellations can be made at any time prior to your flight departure and the refund will be issued to your original credit card within 7 days (should appear on your statement within 1–2 billing cycles).

Award ticket: If you have booked an award ticket with Air Canada and it has been more than 24 hours, the cancellation fee is $125 for those canceling through aeroplan.com and $150 for those canceling through an Aeroplan contact center.

If you have Diamond status in Air Canada’s Aeroplan program, those figures are reduced to $30 for online cancellations and $100 for contact center cancellations. Those with top-tier Altitude Super Elite 100k status with Air Canada will not be charged cancellation fees.

The airline has the right to change the administration fees if you change your Air Canada flight at the airport or Air Canada ticketing office.

Air Canada Standby Policy

If you ever need to make sudden changes in your travel plans, it might be helpful to know if the airline you’re flying with has some flexibility. If you’re traveling on Air Canada, depending on your ticket, you may be allowed to make a same-day change or fly standby on the same day.

Air Canada allows eligible customers to fly standby—meaning passengers can get on an earlier flight than the one originally booked. It is subject to availability, and the airline must have multiple flights between your city of departure and the city of destination.
It is also only available if you haven’t checked in your bags yet.

For those flying under Comfort, Latitude, Premium Economy (flexible), and Business Class (flexible), flying standby is free of charge.

Air Canada policies for pregnant travelers

If you have a normal pregnancy and no previous history of premature labor, you may travel by air up to and including your 36th week on Air Canada, Air Canada Rouge, and Air Canada Express.

After 36 weeks of pregnancy, your healthcare provider may advise against flying. And some airlines don't allow pregnant people to fly after 36 weeks. The airline also may require a letter from your health care provider that states how far along in your pregnancy you are and whether flying is advised.
